Culture shock

It's awkward to explain to my brother visiting from Malaysia that hand kissing gestures is just a sign of politeness in Western culture. Probably not so much if it happened more than once and if they are totally stranger that you met in a foreign country while sitting in metro. Great, now he is going to report to mommy. -.- 

Don't take me wrong I don't think it's normal too. Probably it's just the French!!
